Who is Balmoral Group? 

Balmoral Group is a successful local business established in 1980 by Sir Jim Milne and is wholly owned by the Milne family. The Group has built a reputation for quality and service, which naturally reflects the values of the Marcliffe. 

The Group consists of Balmoral Comtec, Balmoral Tanks, Blaze Manufacturing and Balmoral Business Park. It also supports many charities through its foundation and fully funds the running costs of Friends of ANCHOR including the salaries of the six members of the fundraising team.

Why did they make this investment? 

Balmoral Group already owns and operates commercial property and a business park, alongside its manufacturing and fire protection firms. All are leading businesses in the fields they operate in. The Group is committed to investing in companies that are leaders in their respective industries. The Marcliffe Hotel & Spa is in alignment with that strategy.

Who will be managing the hotel? 

The hotel will be owned by Balmoral Group, which has appointed leading hospitality management firm, Effective Hospitality Management (EHM), to manage the hotel in collaboration with existing Marcliffe team. 

Per their wishes, the Spence family will not remain in the business following the completion of the sale. We thank them for everything that they have put into the making The Marcliffe what it is today. They are responsible for creating an impressive legacy and we fully intend to do our utmost to respect its heritage. 

What will happen to the hotel, are there any planned changes? 

The hotel will continue with business as usual. 

Balmoral Group, in partnership with EHM, is committed to ensuring that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained at The Marcliffe. The ongoing renovation programme will continue, and Balmoral Group will make significant investment in improving processes and systems that will enhance customer experience. 

Will existing bookings, events and weddings, including deposits be honoured? 

Yes, all existing bookings within our hotel rooms, restaurant and function rooms will be honoured, including quotes and deposits. There will be no changes to events, including weddings. 

Will vouchers and/or existing offers be honoured? 

All offers and vouchers will be honoured.

Weddings

Our dedicated team remains here to assist you every step of the way to create the day of your dreams. While there are no changes to your day, you might have questions. 

Below we have included FAQs that may be front of mind. 

Will the sale of the Marcliffe have an impact on my wedding, contracts or reservations? 

There will be no changes to pre-booked events, including weddings. All contracts, reservations and deposits will be honoured. 

Will there be any anticipated changes to the venue, services or amenities that could impact my wedding? 

There will be no changes to the venue, services or amenities. Balmoral Group will continue the ongoing renovation programme at the hotel, including suites, but all renovations of our function areas, including the Courtyard Suite, Grand Ballroom, Invery Room were completed in 2021. 

Can we expect the same quality of service that we were initially promised? 

Balmoral Group, EHM and the existing Marcliffe team are committed to maintaining the highest levels of quality and service that The Marcliffe has always been known for. 

Who will be our point of contact for any questions or concerns related to our wedding during this transition period? 

There are no planned changes to the staff at The Marcliffe and therefore your point of contact will remain as Caroline Graham, Events Manager, who you can contact on events@marcliffe.com or on +44(0)1224 861 000 with any questions.

Events

Our dedicated team remains here to assist your every step. While there are no changes to your event plans, you might have questions. Below we have included FAQs that may be front of mind. 

Will the sale of the Marcliffe have an impact on my planned event, contracts or reservations? 

There will be no changes to or impact on pre-booked events, including weddings. All contracts, reservations and deposits will be honoured. 

Will there be any anticipated changes to the venue, services or amenities that could impact my planned event? 

There will be no changes to the venue, services or amenities. Balmoral Group will continue the ongoing renovation programme at the hotel, including suites, but all renovations of our function areas, including the Courtyard Suite, Grand Ballroom, Invery Room were completed in 2021.

Can we expect the same quality of service that we were initially promised?

Will my existing reservation be honoured, and are there any changes to my booking that I should be aware of? 

Yes, all reservations (including hotel stays, private and corporate events, and dining and restaurant bookings) will be honoured. It will be business as usual. 

Will there be any modifications to the rates, terms, or conditions of my reservation? 

There will be no modifications to the rates, terms or conditions of your reservation.

Can I expect the same level of service and access to all amenities (e.g., spa, restaurants, fitness centre) during my stay? 

Balmoral Group and EHM are committed to maintaining the highest levels of quality and service that The Marcliffe has always been known for. All amenities will be available to you. 

Will any facilities be unavailable or under renovation during my stay as a result of the acquisition? 

The Marcliffe has been undergoing a programme of renovations since 2020. Balmoral Group will continue these renovations, with planned renovations to suites in the near future. We are committed to honouring the timelines already agreed.
