Environmental Responsibility

We pride ourselves on the long-standing eco-friendly efforts we continuously make to use local suppliers and local produce as well as ensuring the local land are wildlife are well looked after.

Discover more as to how we are doing this.

Environmental Policy

Set on 8 acres of picturesque and private land within the outskirts of Aberdeen City, at the gateway entrance towards the Royal Deeside on the North Deeside Road, The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa is committed to both the protection of the land and the evaluation and consideration of the impact had on the local Environment, Land and Sustainability.

Throughout our efforts to ensure we are up to date with eco smart technology and greener practices our preference is given to products and services which have minimal or beneficial effect on the environment, and we are actively working, in conjunction with the Forestry Commission Scotland, RSPB and the Scottish Beekeepers Association, on measures to help protect and sustain the local wildlife population.

Eco Friendly

Within the hotel we aim to use eco-friendly packaging such as ceramic and glass to avoid single use plastics. As part of our housekeeping policy, rooms feature a card for guests to consider reusing towels during their stay to reduce water waste, and within rooms and bedrooms we are exclusively using energy saving lights to reduce energy consumption. Eco smart technology showers and toilets have also been introduced to the majority of our guest rooms which conserve and use less water.

We recycle across the hotel and spa with paper waste, and dispose of any other waste including glass, plastics and food waste in conjunction with our recycling partners, Business Waste and Taylor’s Waste.

Protecting Nature

We are committed to protecting our land and recognise the impact it can have on our local community and surrounding areas, therefore we ensure that we re-use all wood on site and maintain our local wildlife including our Squirrel and Deer friends with natural feed. We also account for Rainfall and ensuring water running down towards the foot of the hill is filtering efficiently, and any Ice during the winter season is appropriately sanded or salted with nature-friendly products.

Going Greener

We are considerate to using locally sourced and quality ingredients from businesses within the local community including McIntosh for Beef and Fish and Seafood from local Suppliers only to reduce our carbon emissions and increase our sustainability, this extends to local honeycombs for natural honey in the mornings during breakfast service. In 2024 we will be introducing charging stations for our visitors and staff to efficiently charge their vehicles.

How can you help?

Here are some of the ways in which you can help during your stay as a Guest at The Marcliffe Hotel: Please do not leave taps running unnecessarily. Leave your newspapers, bottles and cans on the floor beside your bin for recycling. Place used towels on the bathroom floor if you require them to be replaced. If not, please leave them hanging on the rail. Switch off lights when they are not in use.

We are proud to continue to develop our understanding and commitment to our environmental impacts as a local hotel and spa. Questions, comments and requests regarding our Environment Policy are welcomed and should be addressed to our appointed Green advisory team at info@marcliffe.com
